A hiking holiday like in a picture book

Come, let’s collect moments for eternity

At first it was an insider tip, but then the Grossarl Valley made a name for itself in the hiking world. We believe that it is the combination of an excellent network of paths, unspoilt nature, a mountain railway for cable car hikes, the mighty Hohe Tauern and around forty alpine pastures with places to stop for refreshments that bring guests like you to our region. Everyone will find the right challenge here, from families to summiteers, and we will go hiking with you personally at least three days a week.

We love hiking
and are a certified hiking hotel
boasting the highest possible accolade.
We’ll show you the mountains!

Our awards and memberships

Hiking Hotels member

We are the only official hiking hotel in Grossarl Valley and have been awarded five mountain crystals. This proves our expertise when it comes to hiking! The certification ensures that you will find everything essential for hiking - e.g. certified hiking guides, up-to-date maps or equipment hire - at the Alte Post. In 2012, Toni Knapp senior was named Hiking Hotelier of the Year by the Association Wanderhotels! So you could say hiking is our passion, or what do you think?

Berg Gesund member company

The Alte Post Grossarl is a member of BERG GESUND and that means: You can take part in sporting activities, from yoga hikes to snowshoe hikes to rock climbing, free of charge! The only potential costs are for the hiking taxi, the cable car, equipment hire and things like that. We are delighted that this offer was created in Grossarl. Because it means you simply have more opportunities to discover nature! We will be happy to advise you on the activities. Alternatively, you can find out more online and register right away.

Austrian Hiking Seal of Approval

Just as Grossarl was awarded the Austrian Hiking Seal of Approval, we as a hotel are also proud recipients of this award! It means you can trust that you are in competent, knowledgeable hands with us when it comes to hiking matters.

Our hiking guides

Toni Knapp

Toni Senior

Toni is our most diligent hiking guide and takes our guests to the mountains several times a week. He loves variety and stories from home and was even once awarded Best Hiking Hotelier!
Maria Knapp

Maria Senior

Maria has a special eye for medicinal herbs and plants in Grossarl Valley. If you go hiking with her, you are guaranteed to discover new things: with your eyes, with your hands and certainly with your nose. Prepare to be surprised!
Maria Hettegger

Maria Junior

Maria used to go hiking with her father and is guaranteed to infect you with her enthusiasm for nature, by the alpacas in any case. When her children were small, she strapped them to her back and took them to the mountains with her.
Daniela Ramsauer

Daniela

The “newcomer” to the area has come to appreciate the Grossarl Valley so much that she uses every free day to go to the mountains. How glad she is, then, to go hiking with you during working hours!

Strolling across the meadows with the alpacas
is a very special experience.
Your face will be glowing
and take the most special holiday photos!

Alpaca feeding

For the heart:
Alpaca hiking

It’s really impressive how quickly our fluffy four-legged friends steal your heart with their loving eyes! We were considering whether we wanted to include alpacas in our hotel family, but it had already happened. Are you ready to fall in love? Then come with us on an alpaca hike!

Fancy a hiking holiday?
We have great offers for you!
